Ingredients

  • 1-2 shots of espresso or 1/3 cup strong brewed coffee (see note 1)
  • 250 ml (1 cup) almond milk plus more to top up (see note 2)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • 1-2 teaspoons sweetener of choice optional
  • Ice cubes see note 5

Instructions

Hot almond milk latte

  • Begin by making hot espresso. If you don't have a fancy machine, try my French Press Espresso. It's what I used to make this delicious almond milk latte.
    1-2 shots of espresso
  • Next, heat almond milk up either in a pot on the stove or in the microwave for 2-3 minutes. You want it to be hot but not boiling.
250 ml (1 cup) almond milk
  • Froth the warm milk with a milk frother or a steam wand. I find it easiest to get fine, silky bubbles when I move the milk from a pot or bowl to a smaller jug.
  • Add 1 or 2 shots of espresso to a mug or tall latte glass. At this point, you can also add vanilla or something to sweeten it like a dash of maple syrup. Mix the espresso well with the sweetener.
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1-2 teaspoons sweetener of choice
  • Pour the frothed almond milk over the espresso. Pro tip: if the foam is staying inside the jug instead of pouring out along with the frothed milk onto your latte, tilt the jug to the side or use a teaspoon to scoop it on top.

Iced almond milk latte

  • Begin by making 1 or 2 shots of espresso. You can also use some cold brew coffee instead.
    1-2 shots of espresso
  • Add 1 or 2 shots of espresso or 1/3 cup of strong coffee to a tall glass.
  • If you want to add vanilla or something sweet, add it now and mix it well with the coffee.
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1-2 teaspoons sweetener of choice
  • Fill the glass with ice cubes.
    Ice cubes
  • Next. you can froth the cold almond milk if desired, and then pour it over the ice and coffee.
250 ml (1 cup) almond milk
  • This creamy iced almond milk latte should mix pretty well when the milk is being poured, but you can stir it with a long spoon or a straw to blend everything.

Notes

  1. Coffee: For this coffee drink I used French Press Espresso. It's such a great recipe for making lattes and other fancier coffee drinks when you don't have an espresso machine to make espresso shots. If you don't want to make espresso, making strong coffee with a drip coffee maker is a great substitute. I'd double the strength of the regular coffee for the best flavor. Cold brew coffee works really well if you're making an iced latte. You could also try instant coffee. Mix 1 teaspoon with 1/3 cup of hot water.
  2. Almond milk: Unsweetened almond milk is ideal to make this hot latte, however, you could use regular almond milk (which is sweetened a little), or vanilla almond milk to make a vanilla almond milk latte.
  3. Frothing the milk: Frothing almond milk won't have the same results as frothing whole milk. There is less fat and sugar, so the fine foam in the frother milk doesn't form and hold quite as well, but it does still work. I recommend keeping your milk frother under the milk the entire time you froth for the best results.
  4. Add more flavor: Think of your favorite flavors from a coffee shop. You can find many of them at a grocery store or online to recreate an amazingly good latte at home.
  5. Iced espresso: Freeze your espresso in an ice cube tray to add it to your iced latte instead of regular ice cubes. This keeps it from watering down, as it does when the ice melts.
