Slow Cooker Apple Butter Recipe
No-added-sugar apple butter made overnight in the slow cooker with sweet apples, cinnamon and vanilla.

- 4½ pounds sweet apples Gala, Fuji or Golden Delicious, cored, skins on
- 4-5 medjool dates or 10-12 smaller dates
- ½ cup apple juice or water
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chop the apples into 6-8 chunks each.
4½ pounds sweet apples
Add the apples, dates, cinnamon, and apple juice to the slow cooker.
4-5 medjool dates, ½ cup apple juice, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Cover and cook on low for 10 hours.
Unplug and blend smooth with a stick blender.
Cook uncovered on low for 1-2 hours, until thick, dark and mounding on a spoon.
Off the heat, stir in the vanilla.
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cool completely, jar, and refrigerate.
- Sweet apples only.
- Keep the lid off until it thickens to your liking.
- Cold plate test: no liquid ring means it's done.
- Add the vanilla off the heat.
- It thickens more as it cools.
Storage
- Fridge: 2 weeks, airtight.
- Freezer: 3 months in small tubs.
- Never store it in the pantry.
