I’m Bethany!

What is it that fuels you? For me, it’s food. Food, lack of food, and how it affects different bodies – I just find it fascinating!

In 2019 I was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance (and a slight dairy intolerance as well). This meant I had to give up a major food group in our house: pizza (I’m serious, my other half makes the best pizza). This blog, Make Healthy Recipes, is a way for me to experiment with creating new food ideas, or twisting my old favorite recipes to suit my new diet.

I’ve tried a few different ways of eating over the years, mainly paleo, keto, vegan, a little AIP (because a Dr told me I have early signs of an autoimmune disease but it’s not bad enough for treatment), and also a candida cleanse. My recipes stem from these experiences, and now my journey toward optimum health through gut-healthy recipes.

I also quite enjoy fasting. I’ve done OMAD (one meal a day) off and on for about 3 years, and also did a 21-day water fast in May 2020 (what else do you do in a pandemic other than get pregnant? ha).

I hope you enjoy this life-changing adventure with me and have fun creating my recipes at home. Take a look around; perhaps you’ll discover what fuels you as well. Maybe it’s not pizza after all.

I am from Glasgow, Scotland living currently in Newcastle, England. I did spend several years in the USA playing music in Austin, TX (I studied classical violin at Edinburgh Napier, also play the ukulele, saw, and sing. Magical Spacecat was my band).

Here in Newcastle, I have a beautiful wee boy named Elliot, and a handsome Greek man named Dimitris. We spend at least 1 month per year in Greece, usually sometime during the summer (beach, please!). You’ll see posts on my Instagram account when I’m away. The family home we go to on Lesvos island has grape vines, lemon trees, and amazing fresh fish at the local market. It’s really a treat to grill there every night!

Thanks again for visiting, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
