How often do you make Mexican food? Since my other half discovered the endless joy of tacos last year we’ve had a taco night every week! I know, we’re really living it up here. I love Mexican dishes because they are easy to make with either meat or veggies, and making your own taco seasoning is so easy. This healthy homemade taco seasoning takes just a couple of minutes to whip up and can fit so many diets including Whole30, paleo, vegan, low carb, and keto. There are no added preservatives in this sugar free taco seasoning, and you can easily adjust the heat or salt if needed. It is perfect for everyone!

โค๏ธ Why you will love this recipe

  • Easy ingredients: This healthy taco seasoning uses common herbs and simple spices found in most kitchens. There’s no added sugar here!
  • Quick: It’s ready in just 5 minutes or less.
  • It suits all diets: Whole30, paleo, keto, gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan.
  • Tastes amazing on everything! It’s much, much tastier than store-bought taco seasoning and is so tasty on meats and veggies, and also in dips. Making your own spice blends is the way forward for the best-tasting food!
  • Adaptable: You can adjust this DIY taco seasoning to your own tastes, for example, skip the salt if you prefer low sodium.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Key Ingredients for Whole30 Taco Seasoning

  • Chili powder: Turn up the heat in this Whole30 Taco Seasoning Recipe with chili powder! You can use mild, medium, or hot. Cayenne pepper would be a good alternative if needed. Chipotle chili powder would add extra smokiness.
  • Oregano: Dried oregano flakes are perfect for this taco spice mix recipe!
  • Smoky paprika: I love a hint of smokiness in my tacos or taco seasoned roasted veggies, however, you can also use sweet or hot instead.
  • Cumin: Cumin is a staple in Mexican cuisine and is very much needed for flavor in this taco seasoning recipe.
  • Garlic powder: Garlic powder or granules leave a deliciously garlicky aroma! Onion powder is a good substitute if you have no garlic powder.
  • Red pepper flakes: Just a little more heat and texture.
  • Salt: You can add this to taste or skip it entirely.
  • Ground Black Pepper: I added this for a little extra taste.

๐Ÿซ™ How to store homemade seasonings

Store your taco seasoning (and other DIY seasonings) in an airtight container for up to 3 months. A small mason jar or spice jars are perfect for this. I used these glass jars from Ikea. Spices generally lose their potency after 3 months but are still edible.
