🗝️ Key Ingredients & Substitutions

This air fryer almonds recipe is all about simplicity and flexibility. Each ingredient plays a crucial role in creating these deliciously roasted almonds, and there’s room for substitutions to suit your taste or dietary needs.

  • Raw Almonds: Whole almonds are not only delicious but also a great source of healthy fats and protein. Other nuts can also work for this recipe (walnuts, cashews, pecans, etc.).
  • Refined Coconut Oil: This helps in evenly coating the almonds with the spices and sweeteners. You can substitute it with olive oil or melted butter for a different flavor profile.
  • Honey, Maple Syrup, or Sugar-Free Sweetener: Choose your sweetener based on your dietary preference. Honey and maple syrup add a natural sweetness, while sugar-free sweeteners are great for a low-carb option.
  • Vanilla Extract: Adds a lovely aroma and depth of flavor. You can also try almond extract for a different twist.
  • Ground Cinnamon: This gives the almonds their signature warm, spiced flavor. Feel free to adjust the amount to suit your taste.
  • Salt: Just a pinch to enhance all the flavors. Sea salt works great here.

🥣 How to Make Air Fryer Cinnamon Almonds

Making these air-fryer cinnamon almonds is a breeze, and I’m here to guide you through every step. Get ready to fill your kitchen with the most cozy aroma!

Preparing Your Ingredients

Start by gathering all your ingredients. Melt the coconut oil in a small bowl, then stir in your choice of sweetener and vanilla extract. This mixture will help the cinnamon and salt stick to the almonds, making every bite as delicious as the first.

Coating the Almonds

In a larger mixing bowl, toss the almonds with your coconut oil mixture until they’re completely coated. This step is key to getting that even, crispy coating we’re after.

Air Frying

Spread the almonds out in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Remember, we want each almond to have its own space so it gets perfectly roasted. Air fry them at 200°C/390°F for 8 minutes, then sprinkle with a mix of cinnamon and salt, give them a good stir, and cook for another 5-7 minutes. Keep a close eye on them towards the end to prevent burning.

Cooling and Serving

Once done, spread the almonds out on a parchment-lined sheet pan dusted with cinnamon. Add a little extra cinnamon on top and let them cool. This not only stops the cooking process but also lets them get that irresistible cinnamon crunch.

Once cooled, give them a taste and add extra salt if needed. Enjoy!

🪄 Recipe Notes & Tips

  • Single Layer is Key: Make sure to spread the almonds in a single layer in the air fryer basket for even cooking.
  • Watch the Time: Almonds can go from perfectly roasted to burnt quite quickly. Start checking them a few minutes before the timer goes off.
  • Spice it Up: For a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili powder to your cinnamon and salt mixture.
  • Make them Sweeter: If you’re a fan of sweeter snacks, try adding a bit more honey or maple syrup. A sprinkle of brown sugar can also add a nice caramelized flavor.
  • Keto Sweetener: If you choose to use granulated sweetener like erythritol, melt it in the microwave with the coconut oil.
  • Batch Size Matters: If you’re making a large batch, cook the almonds in multiple smaller batches to ensure they all roast evenly.
  • Temperature: Different air fryers can run hotter or cooler. Adjust the temperature and cooking time based on your specific air fryer model.

🫙 Storage Instructions

Got some leftover cinnamon almonds? No problem! Storing them correctly is an easy way to make sure they stay fresh and crunchy for as long as possible. Here’s how to do it:

  • Cool Completely: Before storing, let the almonds cool completely. Storing them while they’re still warm can lead to moisture buildup, which makes them go soft.
  • Airtight Container: Store the almonds in an airtight container. Mason jars or any air-tight container work great for this.
  • Room Temperature Storage: Keep them at room temperature in a dry place. They’ll stay fresh and crunchy for several weeks.
