If you’re in need of a simple dinner, look no further! Cooking frozen burgers in the oven could not be easier. With these simple steps and detailed instructions (along with a few tips and tricks), you can give in to your burger cravings any time with this healthy cooking method!
❤️ Why you will love this recipe
- Easy: This is such an easy way to cook delicious burgers in no time at all. Just pop them on a wire rack on a baking sheet and bake! It’s much quicker than firing up the grill, and you still have tasty burgers in the end.
- Quick: Quick meals make life so much easier! Perfect for a busy weeknight, this easy meal is ready in just 30 minutes.
- Healthier option: Skip the fast food and the frying pan! Cooking frozen burgers in the oven is much healthier. Any excess fat drips off the burgers into the cookie sheet. This is a great way to avoid excess grease!
- Great for different burgers: These simple instructions work for many types of frozen burgers like turkey burgers, veggie burgers, frozen beef patties, lamb, chicken, or even pork burgers.
🗝️ Key Ingredients & Substitutions
- Frozen hamburgers: This can be any kind of frozen patty! I used frozen ground beef and pork burgers from my Freezer Burger Recipe, but you can easily use store-bought burgers instead. A few of my favorites are lamb burgers, turkey burgers, and veggie burgers.
- Cooking spray: This is optional, but I like to spray a little cooking oil or olive oil onto the baking rack before adding the frozen patties. This keeps them from sticking.
- Extra seasoning: Frozen burgers from the grocery store can sometimes be a little lacking in flavor so I like to sprinkle a little extra seasoning on before cooking. Check out my post on 21 Easy Ways to Season Frozen Burgers for ideas!
- Buns & toppings: For serving! Choose your favorite hamburger buns (gluten-free, keto, brioche buns, etc.) and toppings to add to your meal.
🥣 How to cook frozen patties in the oven
1. Preheat the oven: Begin by preheating the oven to 200°C/400°F/Fan 180°C/Gas 6.
2. Add aluminum to tray: (Optional) In a baking tray, add a layer of aluminum foil (or parchment paper) to the bottom. This will catch any drippings and make clean-up easier.
3. Arrange the burgers: Place a metal wire rack over the aluminum foil and then add the frozen hamburger patties on top in a single layer. I can usually fit 6 burgers on one tray.
4. Bake! When the oven is ready, bake the patties for 25-30 minutes until they are cooked through. Note: If you’re baking raw frozen beef burgers, add an extra 10 minutes.
5. Check the temperature: Check that the burgers are ready by checking the internal temperature with a meat thermometer. When the instant-read thermometer reads 71°C/160 degrees F, they are ready to eat. This is the ideal temperature to make sure that you avoid undercooked meat which can lead to food poisoning.
6. Broil: Optionally, you can broil the burgers under the hot grill in your oven to give them a nice crust. It only takes a couple of minutes and I think it really makes them taste amazing.
7. Add cheese: Another option right before serving is adding some cheese slices. Again, broil the burgers with a slice of cheese on top of each for about a minute until the cheese begins to melt. You don’t want it to melt too much or it’ll ooze off of the burger into the extra fat!
8. Serve: Add these flavorful burgers to your favorite bun or a salad bowl with all of the toppings and enjoy!
🫙 Storage Instructions
Any leftover cooked hamburgers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat them thoroughly in the oven, on the stove over medium-high heat, in the microwave, or in the air fryer. It is not advised to re-freeze frozen burgers after cooking them.
🪄 Recipe Notes & Tips
- Cooking time: The cook time depends on the thickness of the burgers and also your oven. Some ovens run a little cooler over time as the thermostat can become less efficient. The best way to make sure the burgers are cooked properly is to check them with a thermometer.
- Air fryer burgers from frozen: Another delicious way to cook burgers is in an air fryer. The air fryer basket works similarly to the wire rack, allowing the extra fat to drip off into the bottom while cooking. This is the best option for a small batch of up to 4 frozen burgers. Check out my Air Fryer Frozen Burgers recipe for all of the tips and tricks.
- Add seasoning: For best results, if you want to season the burgers add any extra seasoning or sauces before cooking the patties. I also like to spray a little cooking spray over the patties before sprinkling any seasoning so that it sticks to each patty. ✨ How to season frozen burger patties
In my opinion, frozen burgers need extra flavor, especially if they’re pre-packaged from the store. A few great ideas for seasoning burgers are:
- Smoky + spicy seasoning mix: Smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and chili flakes.
- Slather barbecue sauce over the hamburger meat before cooking.
- Marinating the burgers in a flavorful sauce.
